FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK CITY –

For almost a year, we have called on the city to do right by this deeply vulnerable population. While we are not shocked, we are deeply dismayed by the vile and outrageous comments by NYC Mayor Eric Adams that the influx of migrants “will destroy New York City.” The Mayor’s comments are irresponsible and incite violence against our community members.

The United States and New York City – both built on the back of Black and immigrant labor — have a special obligation to safeguard the well-being of refugees, migrants and people seeking asylum. In countries like Afghanistan, it was the disastrous policies of the “War on Terror” that have caused displacement and humanitarian crisis, forcing people to flee persecution and starvation. The Mayor should stop pandering to racists and white supremacist, and instead should use the resources of the richest city in the world to allow our new community to be welcomed with dignity.
